A rite of spring in Vermont is to watch steelhead trout migrating up the Willoughby River at Willoughby Falls.

Unique to the Northeast Kingdom is the run of Steelhead Trout that leave Lake Memphremagog each spring and return to their seasonal spawning grounds in the Willoughby River. Once a year, visitors gather on the stream banks in Orleans for a chance to see the fish jump up the falls, an annual phenomenon in Willoughby River.

NEKTU will be at Willoughby Falls to welcome the public with information about the strain of rainbow trout and the story behind their journey.

Parking is limited so park at the Orleans Municipal Building and carpool or park at Orleans Elementary School and walk about 8 minutes (0.4mi) to the falls.

The Northeast Kingdom Trout Unlimited is a volunteer group working to build partnerships with landowners, educate the public about water stewardship, and implement restoration projects for fisheries that dot Caledonia, Orleans, and Essex counties.
