Pope to Discuss Book at Vermont Granite Museum

BARRE – Former Hardwick Gazette owner and editor Eric Pope will be giving a presentation about his new book “Granite Kingdom: A Novel,” at the Vermont Granite Museum on Thursday, June 8 at 6 p.m.

The historical novel is set in 1910 in a northern Vermont village when it was the nation’s largest supplier of granite for construction. The protagonist, newspaper reporter Dan Strickland, investigates fatal industrial accidents at one of the village’s big granite producers and winds up caught between the grudges of business owners and the struggles of climbing the social ladder.

Pope’s presentation is part of the Museum’s 2023 Granite Lecture and Film Series. Every Thursday evening at 6 p.m. through the end of October, folks can listen to historians or granite sculptors share their stories or watch remastered films dating from the 1920s to 2020s taken in Vermont’s granite quarries, sheds, and throughout Vermont’s granite towns.

The Vermont Granite Museum is located at 7 Jones Brothers Way. Questions about this presentation can be directed to [email protected] or (802) 476-4605.
