Count Me Out

To the editor:

It was very disappointing to read the article by John Walters in last weeks Gazette. The so-called opinion piece was less arguing a point of view, and more snark, sarcasm, and personal insults. Among other things, referring to VT Senator Starr as “Roguish bumpkin”, “hateful bigot”, “the MAGA uncle ranting at the Thanksgiving table”. From a personal viewpoint I don’t disagree with the point he was trying to make, but I found myself sympathizing with the target of his derision. We are in an unfortunate (and for me depressing) time, when hurling insults has taken the place of well-reasoned arguments. If articles like this are the future of the Hardwick Gazette, count me out.
