Eight Students Participate in History Day

CRAFTSBURY – Eight Craftsbury Academy students participated in Vermont History Day in Burlington on April 6. The theme of the contest this year was “Turning Points in History, ” with nearly 300 students from across the state participating.

Madison Amell and Adrienne Robillard presented “Harriet Tubman and a Fight for A New Life,” documented the early life and experiences of Harriet Tubman as a freedom fighter. James Reynolds and Arden Bissell’s presented “The Attack on Pearl Harbor” looking at the turning point of Pearl Harbor and America’s entry into World War II.

Linden Fox and Sylvan VanGulden turned their lens on the economic and physical landscape of Vermont in “The Vermont Sheep Boom,” and Ada Allen looked under the surface of American recreational swimming in “A Day at the Beach: Social Norms and Societal Evolution in American Recreational Swimming Culture.” Her project won the Vermont History Day Women’s History Prize.

Matthew Califano’s “The Sherman Act and the Birth of the Administrative State,” earned him third place in the Vermont History Day Senior Division for papers.
