GREENSBORO BEND – David Henry Allen,71, of Greensboro Bend died peacefully on Sunday, January 14, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, following a courageous battle with cancer. His family was at his side.

He was born October 20,1952, in Hardwick, the son of the late Wallace and Althea (Gallant) Allen. He graduated from Hardwick Academy in the class of 1970.

Following his education, he worked at Mastercraft Fence Company in Greensboro Bend for more than 20 years. Until he retired, he was a carpenter.

On February 15, 1975, he married Donna Marie VanLeuven at St. Michael’s Church in Greensboro Bend. Together they raised three children.

David loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid dog lover. Over the years, he never got a dog kiss that he didn’t enjoy from his own dogs or his grand-dogs. He was also a music lover. He often sang “Puff the Magic Dragon,” played the guitar, violin, harmonica and banjo, which always delighted his family.

Following the death of his beloved wife, Donna, on May 23, 2012, David worked on his cake-making skills. He was determined to continue Donna’s tradition of a homemade carrot cake for the children and grandchildren’s birthdays. He had great success. He applied for Justice of the Peace to officiate at the wedding of his son, Jason and daughter-in-law, Jessica. He then showed up at the wedding in a tuxedo tee shirt, all to brighten everyone’s day. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.

Survivors include three children: Jamie Hall and husband, Lance, of Greensboro Bend; Jeremy Allen of East Hardwick and Jason Allen and wife Jessica, of Franklin; five grandchildren: Joey, Cody, Lydia and Lucas Hall, and Aidan Allen; a brother, Richard Allen, and wife Carla of Hardwick; nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 20, at Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick; Rev. Ernest Machia officiated.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network, P.O. Box 828, Morrisville, VT 05661.

Arrangements are in the care of Dian R. Holcomb of Northern Vermont Funeral Service, 60 Elm Street, Hardwick. Online condolences are welcomed at northernvermontfuneralservice.com
