Roger Shepard, of Hartland, fires the arch at his nephew Eric Remick’s sugarhouse Thursday. Remick’s first boil of the 2024 season was on February 12, a week earlier than he has ever started.

Eric Remick and Sarah Morgan of Sweet Stone Maple Farm built their sugarhouse in 2004 on Pearl Street in Hardwick. The addition on the right was built in 2012 and they added another addition on the left in 2019. Remick’s first boil of the season was February 12, a week earlier than he has ever started. To date he has made 1,200 gallons and as long as the weather holds out, he hopes to meet his average season total of 1,500 gallons.
