Three Sundays of Bird Walks

Share article

GREENSBORO – The Greensboro Conservation Commission and Greensboro Free Library are cosponsoring three Sunday morning bird walks led by local birders. In addition to bird identification books, the library has two pairs of binoculars available for loan, and additional pairs may be available to borrow for each walk.

The first walk, guided by John Schweizer of Vermont Audubon, will begin at the library at 53 Wilson Street in Greensboro at 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 19.  Participants will progress along Church Lane, Lazy Lane and High Pines searching for birds in the woods next to Caspian Lake. On last year’s walk along this path, the birding group  identified nearly 30 species of birds.

The second walk will meet at 7 a.m. at Highland Lodge on Sunday, May 26, and progress along Bathtub Rock Road and Porter Brook, led by Chris Steel.

The third and final walk will be guided by Joann Hanowski of Vermont Audubon and will explore the private Bear Glen Trails. The group will meet at 7 a.m. at the end of Collier Road (off Rocking Rock Road) on Sunday, June 2.

All of the bird walks are free, and all are welcome.

Later this summer, the Greensboro Conservation Commission is planning a Birds Day at the Highland Center for the Arts,  featuring a raptors visit from VINS (Vermont Institute of Natural Science) and a talk by Bridget Butler (The Vermont Bird Diva) on Saturday, August 17.
