GREENSBORO – Summer hours begin July 1, at Greensboro Free Library (GFL), and brings weekly special programs for adults and children.
In July and August the library will be open each weekday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with evening hours until 7 p.m., on Tuesdays, and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sundays 11:30 a.m, to 1:30 p.m.
Adult programs will feature Circus Smirkus founder Rob Mermin, music by David Brahinsky, a watercolor class, a panel of Vermont mystery authors, and a reading by Greensboro author Lynn Stegner.
The library art gallery will feature watercolors by Carol Williams Mason and painted wooden screens by Carole Drury.
Family programs are centered on the theme, “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” The first adventure begins Thursday, June 27, at 10 a.m., and children are invited to make and taste a lunch of veggie dips, tortillas, quesadillas and salsa with chefs from the Center for an Agricultural Economy.
Family programs will feature fairies, a dog and a pony, author Elaine Cole-Kerr with her new book on pollinators, Modern Times Theater in Greensboro Bend, the local fire department, and the Circus Smirkus Road Show.
Grants from the Vermont Department of Libraries and the Greensboro Association augment the Library’s summer programming budget. Children’s programs will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m., in the library backyard, while most adult programs will be on Wednesdays at 5 p.m., in Fellowship Hall at the Greensboro United Church of Christ.

Youth Librarian Emily Purdy also invites families to explore the Story Walk along the Willey Beach Park trail, the backyard sandbox, play kitchen and kids’ garden, and the Makerspace full of craft supplies, games, and costumes for dress-up play. Children can pick up a local library scavenger hunt passport and visit the libraries in Greensboro, Hardwick, Albany, East Craftsbury, Craftsbury and Cabot to earn an adventure-themed prize.
