Share article

GREENSBORO – The Greensboro Association grants committee has awarded $31,500 to local organizations and nonprofits in the greater Greensboro community as a part of its annual grant cycle.

The Greensboro Association, whose mission is to advance initiatives that connect and enhance the greater Greensboro community, its lake and environment, and support a vibrant local economy, raises money through member donations each year for local initiatives that directly impact the Greensboro community.

Grants this year range from supporting the Greensboro chapter of Habitat for Humanity in building a duplex in the Greensboro Bend village and hiring a Caspian beach attendant, to supporting Hazen Union high school student’s study abroad program, Rural Arts Collaborative in training of community members on makerspace equipment and design technologies, Northeast Kingdom Public Journalism (aka the Hardwick Gazette) in hiring reporters to cover hard news in Greensboro, the NEK Death Care Community in developing resources and events to support our community members, the Greensboro Free Library in hosting it’s youth summer programming, Smith’s Grocery and The Civic Standard in a collaboration of community meals and a performance series, and Circus Smirkus’s second annual Smirkfest community celebration.

Grant awards also support local farmers’ markets in Greensboro and Hardwick, and the Hardwick Rescue Squad’s purchasing of vital CPR training equipment and the Greensboro Fire Department in updating rescue suits, allowing them to keep our communities safe.

In total, the Greensboro Association funded initiatives at 25 local nonprofits and organizations that will have an impact on areas of need within the greater Greensboro area.

Since the flooding in July 2023, the local nonprofit has given over $100,000 to local organizations and nonprofits in the greater Greensboro area, allowing the association to target money to the areas of most immediate need with large impacts to its local community.
