HARDWICK — The 16th Annual Child Haven Benefit Indian Dinner and Sari Fashion Show will be held, Saturday, Oct. 26, at 5:30 p.m. in the Hazen Union High School Cafeteria. The cafeteria will be open again on Sunday Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The sari fashion show returns this year by popular demand. Anyone who would like to join the line-up of models should call Walker Hartt to be informed about fittings and rehearsal timing at (802) 535-4102.
There will be a screening of a video about Child Haven by Avani Pisapati, who has been filming and taking pictures on her last two trips to visit the Child Haven Homes. Robin Cappucino, a director of Child Haven International will once again share pictures and stories of Child Haven’s children and staff.
The silent auction and bazaar table will feature items from a farm tools shop in Lhasa, Tibet; rugs from a workshop for differently-abled people in Kathmandu and jewelry from a government-run shop supporting Tribal Craftspeople in Pune, India. Saturday’s dinner will feature authentic northern and southern Indian cuisine, the Indian sari fashion show and a bazaar and silent auction. To purchase tickets visit childhaven.ca or call Deborah Hartt at (802) 472-5284. Tickets generally sell out so reservations or purchase is advisable.
The Sunday gathering will offer leftover food and chai for sale, extra bazaar table shopping and more information on Child Haven and the intern program. Tickets are not required.
This year chefs Evan Karp, Sikander Rashid and Madhu Venkatarisiah will be joined by Gayathri Pisapati who will bring some flavors of the Hyderabad region of India.
Kitchen helpers are needed Friday from 4 p.m. into the evening and Saturday from 11 a.m. on. To help in the kitchen, or with cafeteria set-up, serving and clean-up on both Saturday evening and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., call Hartt at (802) 472-5284.
All money raised from the weekend supports formerly destitute children and women in Bangladesh, Nepal and India.
