High School Cross-Country Results

MORRISVILLE – Local high school and middle school cross-country programs were back on the trail last week at the Peoples Academy Invitational.

Craftsbury Academy (CA) freshman Stig Linck had a breakout week last Wednesday, finishing eighth in the Division III boys 5,000m race. Soren Stelma-Leonard, Owen McKibben, and Theodore Alexander all had top twenty finishes for the Chargers.

Hazen Union’s Kiah Cloutier continued his impressive maiden varsity season for the Wildcats, finishing just outside the top ten. Stowe’s Enzo Delena bested the field in division III, with runner-up honors going to teammate Nico Delena. Green Mountain’s Lincoln Miller was the overall winner in all divisions, followed by Lamoille’s Zeb Whitlock.

CA eighth grader Oakley Crawford led all local middle schoolers with an impressive fourth place finish in the boys 3,000m race. Sixth grader Linden Fox also turned in a top 20 finish for the Chargers, along with Cabot eighth grader Losada Stoddard. On the girls’ side, the Chargers had six runners finish in the top 20, with Evelyn Patch, Evelyn Stout, Adrienne Robillard, Iris Jacobs, McKenna Flint, and Mia Stout claiming spots 12-17.

The Chargers and Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday at the Mountain Division Championships at U-32 High School.

Moodie Wraps up Links Season at States

BURLINGTON – Hazen Union senior Brendan Moodie wrapped up a stellar season for the Wildcat golf team last week, finishing just outside the top ten in States at Burlington Country Club last Thursday.

Moodie fired a 91 in tough conditions to finish just outside the top 10 in Division II. Otter Valley’s Lucas Politano made it three consecutive state titles with a low round of 74. Runner-up honors went to Stowe’s Rowan Turner, who shot 80 respectively. Otter Valley edged Hartford to win the team state title. Rutland’s Sebastian Pell (73) claimed overall medalist honors to win the Division I state title. CVU beat Rutland by a single stroke to win the team state championship.

Moodie fired a team best 82 at Neshobe Country Club in sectional qualifying two weeks ago to make the state tournament. He wraps up an impressive high school golf career at Hazen that saw him earn medalist honors 6 times since transferring from Peoples Academy his sophomore season.

“The conditions were very tough, with temperatures in the 40’s, a north wind with gusts up to 30mph, on a very challenging wet golf course,” said head coach Andy Hunt.

The talented senior will now turn his attention to the hardwood for the Wildcats where Moodie was a Vermont Dream Dozen selection as a sophomore.
