MONTPELIER — A Vermont Women’s Rally will be held on the statehouse lawn, Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to noon at 115 State St.
The event is to highlight the power of women to fight against discrimination and support women’s human rights.
Melinda Moulton will be master of ceremonies for the days’ line-up of speakers and music, where Taiko Drummers will greet rally-goers, Singer-songwriter Patti Casey will open the rally with a sing-along. Beverly Little Thunder and her daughter Lushanya Echeverria will honor original Indigenous inhabitants with a land acknowledgment and Vermont Poet Laureate Bianca Stone will deliver a poem. Governor Madeleine Kunin and Representative Becca Balint will address the gathering.
Other speakers will include Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark, Director of the Planned Parenthood Vermont Action Fund Jessica Barquist, retired state representative and women’s rights leader Ann Pugh, Kiah Morris, Kennedy Jensen, Christine Hallquist and Jayna Ahsaf. Rebecca Ellis will speak on behalf of Senator Peter Welch.
To close out the rally musicians Dwight and Nicole will perform. State parking lots will be open and free for public parking.
