Shooting with Injuries

HARDWICK – Details of a shooting today in Hardwick remain a mystery.

At 3:38 p.m. the Hardwick Fire Department was toned to assist Hardwick Rescue and the DHART helicopter in setting up a landing zone at the Hazen Union fields. E1 & E2 responded to secure a safe area. DHART was on the ground for approximately 15 to 20 minutes before taking off.

Joe Nudell, visiting his mother from San Francisco, heard sirens coming from Morrisville. Shortly before 4:30 p.m. he was running east on Wolcott Strret from Hillside to Union Street and saw two ambulances with a Sherriff’s car up the hill on Prospect Street near the Victorian house. Reports are that that area is now cordoned off

Before 5:00 p.m. a Vermont Health Care Systems helicopter flew over Hardwick, landing in the athletic fields at Hazen Union School. It was met by a Hardwick Rescue ambulance. A body that appears to be wrapped in a blanket was transferred to the Helicopter.

A Hardwick police report at 8:20 p.m. said, “on Tuesday at approximately 1548 hours, a male called 911 to report he had been shot inside a residence at 7 Hillside Street in Hardwick. Hardwick Police, Morristown Police, Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department and Vermont State Police responded to the scene. The suspect(s) fled prior to the officer’s arrival. The male victim was the only person at the residence upon the officers arrival. Hardwick Rescue responded and the male was transported by DART to UVM Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

“We are in the preliminary stages of the investigation. At this point, it appears to be an isolated incident and there is not a threat to the public.”
