Weather-related Vehicle Crashes

VERMONT – Vermont State Police said, “Persistent snowfall during the past three days has led to treacherous driving across most of Vermont, especially northern parts of the state,” in a January 9 social media post.

From 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, until 7 p.m. Jan. 9, state troopers responded to 163 weather-related vehicle crashes, with 19 of them leading to injuries. Of the total, 124 crashes took place in the northern Vermont communities served by the five barracks in A Troop: Berlin, Derby, St. Albans, St. Johnsbury and Williston. Most of the crashes (118) took place on secondary roads, while the rest (45) occurred on interstate highways.

“VSP encourages everyone on the roads to slow down, leave plenty of space between vehicles, clear off all snow and ice before heading out, turn on your lights, wear your seat belts, and plan for slow going and extra time to arrive at your destination,” the post recommended.
