MONTPELIER – The League of Women Voters of Vermont, in partnership with Kellogg-Hubbard Library presents the fifth in its lecture series on recent Supreme Court decisions. The last program of the season, on Wednesday, March 12, 7 p.m., will feature William Clark of the Gifford Law Center and Attorney Cabot Teachout, a criminal defense lawyer, who  will discuss the Garland v. Cargill decision.

In June 2024, the Court ruled that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives exceeded its statutory authority by issuing a rule that classified a bump stock as a “machine-gun.” The discussion will cover the case, its historical background, and current legislative action related to gun regulations in Vermont.
