HARDWICK – The Hazen Union baseball team dropped a pair of lopsided games out of division last week as U-32 and Spaulding pounded Wildcat pitching, dropping them to 2-8 on the season.
Owen Dwyer and Maddox Heise combined for four hits and seven RBI to power U-32 to a program record 26-0 road win over Hazen last Tuesday. Carlo Concessi drove in two runs on a pair of hits and Carson DeForge smacked a three run double as the Raiders plated 12 runs in the third inning to put the game away early. Jaxon Keane earned the win for U-32, striking out two and walking none. The Raiders improved to 6-2 with their sixth straight win. Owen Skorstad had a hit and a stolen base for the Wildcats, and teammates Evan LaMare, Jake Hayden, and Justin Montgomery added a hit apiece in the loss.
Tanner Arsenault went 4-5 with a triple on Thursday to lead Spaulding over the Wildcats 21-5 at home. Zach Parker drove in four runs on a pair of hits for the Crimson Tide and Carson Nuhfer added a pair of hits and stole a pair of bases in the win. Joey Hayes-Garcia earned the win, scattering five hits over four innings of work. Freshman Trent Loftus finished the fifth with a pair of strikeouts in the win. Spaulding has now won four of five after starting the season 1-5.
Hazen looked to snap a five-game losing streak at Randolph on Tuesday, will stay on the road against Lyndon Institute on Thursday, before wrapping up a busy week at home against Lamoille and North Country on Friday and Saturday.
