LYNDON CENTER – Sophomore Natalie Hill won her first career varsity track and field event to lead several teammates with personal bests for the Craftsbury Academy (CA) track and field team at Lyndon Institute last week.

Hill crushed the field in the discus event last Wednesday with a personal best throw of 67 feet, 5 inches, besting runner-up Sage Cook of Oxbow by over six feet. She capped off her big day with a solid sixth-place finish in the shot put, with freshman teammate Linsey Allen setting a personal record in the same event. Abigail Dunn of North Country took home first place honors. Allen had a personal record throw in the discus event, good enough for a sixth-place finish.

Junior Soren Stelma-Leonard ran his best time of the season in the 1500m for the Chargers, finishing runner-up to Lyndon Institute’s Mateo Gomez-Moguer. Sophomore Theo Alexander posted a personal best and sixth-place finish in the 800m behind Lamoille senior Elliot Rowe, who bested the field by over 14 seconds. Junior Owen McKibben ran personal best times in both the 200m and 400m events, posting a sixth-place finish in the 400. Freshman Nora Van Gulden wrapped up a stellar day for the Chargers with a strong sixth-place finish in the 800m event, won by Lyndon Institute’s Elia Garcia Jurado.

“We had solid performances all around, with the team showing consistency and a desire to compete. Our athletes overall did a good job of hovering around their season bests in their events. They’re in a good position to be competitive and continue to improve on our last weeks of the season,” said head coach Kyle Anderson.

The Chargers are scheduled to travel to South Burlington on Wednesday.
