ST. JOHNSBURY – The top two boys track and field programs in the state went head-to-head last week and something had to give as the U-32 Raiders clipped host St. Johnsbury Academy (SJA) to claim May bragging rights.

Former Hazen Union standout Manny Fliegelman posted his best finish as a Hilltopper, securing a runner-up finish to teammate Evan Windrow in the 800m. Former Craftsbury Academy champion Charlie Kehler ran his best time of the season in the mile over the weekend at the William F. Eddy Jr. in Schenectady, N.Y.

The Raiders boys program has dominated Division II for more than a decade, winning their ninth title in eleven years last spring. The Hilltoppers will be going for their fifth consecutive Division I boys state title next month. The Raiders took down SJA on their home track last Tuesday 169-164.

The Hilltoppers were scheduled to travel to U-32 for the rematch on Tuesday.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story misspelled Manny Fliegelman’s last name.
