LINCOLN, R.I. – Former U-32 golf star Bryson Richards, son of Craftsbury Academy legend Pete Richards, was one of five players to fire low rounds of 68 at Kirkbrae Country Club last week to advance to the Final Stage of U.S. Open qualifying.

The two-time Vermont Amateur winner and Vermont Open champion was coming off a runner-up finish at the PGA National Fazio Two-Day at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on the Professional Mini Tour. Richards graduated from the University of Rhode Island (URI) last spring with six career collegiate wins, three straight Atlantic-10 First Team honors, and was the first golfer in program history to receive the Albert LaBoeuf Award as URI’s top senior athlete of the year. His dream of competing on the PGA Tour nearly came true last fall, advancing to the first round of Q-school.

Final Qualifying tee times and locations will be announced in the coming weeks. Richards will be at one of 10 locations ranging from Walla Walla, Wash., to West Palm Beach on June 2, known as “Golf’s Longest Day,”. The U.S. Open will be played at Oakmont C.C. in Oakmont, Pa., on June 12 to June 15.
