RANDOLPH – The Hazen Union baseball team continued to look for answers at the plate last week with a trio of lopsided losses to Randolph, Lyndon Institute and North Country.
Randolph continued to play its best baseball of the season in the rugged Capital League last week, blowing past the Wildcats at home 12-2. The Galloping Ghosts added wins against Lake Region and Lamoille to their resume in their last five games to win their fourth game of the season after a 1-7 start.
Wyatt Mason continued his dominance over the entire Northeast Kingdom on Thursday, firing a five-inning no-hitter against the Wildcats in a 10-0 home win for the Vikings. The big right-hander struck out 12 and issued just one free pass as Lyndon remained perfect on the season at 10-0. Mason was coming off a one hit 16 strikeout gem against Randolph two weeks ago, surpassing 200 strikeouts in his outstanding career. Griffin Lawson powered the Viking offense with three hits and a pair of RBI, Logan Wheeler added an RBI double and Mason helped his own cause with a two-run double.
The offensive drought continued over the weekend for Hazen as Preston Humphrey and Jamison Eckhardt combined to no-hit the Wildcats as North Country rolled to a 10-0 road win. Kaden Jones and Ben West combined for six hits, a triple, and three RBIs for the Falcons and Bryson Poginy added a two run double in the win. North Country improved to 11-1 with their eighth straight win. Hazen fell to 2-11 and has now been no-hit three times this season.
The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to Harwood on Tuesday before wrapping up the season at home, Wednesday and Thursday against Lamoille and Lake Region. All home games can be streamed live on Hardwick Community Television (hctv.us).
