Rollover Crash, Burglary

On June 26, at 9:10 a.m., the Hardwick Police Department responded to Craftsbury Road north of Gates Salvage for the report of a rollover motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed there was only one vehicle involved. The juvenile operator of a Honda CR-V was traveling south when the vehicle left the road on the west side before rolling over and landing on its wheels in the drainage ditch well off the road surface. Rescue and Fire were also called to the scene. The operator of the vehicle was wearing a lap belt and shoulder harness at the time of this crash and did not sustain any serious injuries.

On July 12, at 7:45 p.m., Roberto J. LaRochelle, of Barnet, was arrested on an active warrant and subsequently lodged at Northeastern Regional Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury. LaRochelle was cited to appear in Orleans Court on Monday, July 14, at 12:30 p.m.

On July 14, at 4:22 a.m., the Hardwick Police were called for the report of a burglary on Wolcott St. Hardwick Police, Morristown Police and the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. The offender had left personal items behind which enabled Hardwick Police to develop a suspect.

While investigating this first call, the Hardwick Police were called to a second location very close to the first, where a male stranger had bee found sleeping in a home. The homeowner rousted the male and ordered him to leave. This homeowner had provided police with a very precise description of the offending male, which matched the appearance of the male suspect developed from the first call. Additionally, the suspect had left a food item at the second location that had been taken from the first.

A third call regarding a male walking around on Woodbury St. resulted in the apprehension of the suspect, identified as Paul McPhetres, of Randolph. McPhetres was taken into custody without incident and arraigned later that day in the Superior Court of Vermont, Caledonia Unit, on the charges of Burglary, Felony Unlawful Trespass and Unlawful Mischief.

He was released from the courthouse on pretrial Conditions of Release.
