CRAFTSBURY – The Craftsbury Energy Committee’s Community Firewood Program for income-limited households reported three cords of split firewood had been taken without permission between 4 and 5 p.m., Friday, July 18. The theft was reported to Vermont State Police Monday.
A red truck and large sided matching red trailer was seen pulling into the firewood area around 4 p.m. It was seen again loading firewood at 4:45 p.m., after which the theft was discovered.

The energy committee says a second truck was likely needed to transport that much firewood.
Anyone with information that might be helpful in learning who might be responsible may contact the Vermont State Police tipline anonymously by texting VTIPS to 274637 (CRIMES) or with the form at cityprotect.com/forms/state.vt.us/anonymous or emailing [email protected]. Anyone providing information will remain anonymous.
For the sixth year the Community Firewood Program offers a cord of firewood to those households who are not able to afford all of their wood heating needs.
Firewood is delivered each year in the spring to an average of 20 households in the Craftsbury and immediate five-town area.
The program had planned on writing a grant this fall for building a secure, dry woodshed for extra firewood that is stored over the winter for emergency purposes. That funding is no longer available due to federal funding cuts, along with funding for emergency fuel assistance in the state.
Anyone wishing to donate towards the construction of a secure firewood storage facility is welcome to contact the Craftsbury Town Clerk’s office, or drop a check off there.
