WATERBURY CENTER − On July 20, Susan Marie April, of Waterbury Center, passed away after a battle with cancer at 76. She was a great friend to many, a wife to one for 51 years, a grandmother, a sister and a mother to two children.
Susan was very creative in all her endeavors, such as making clothes for her children when they were little, which turned into a small business (It’s Sew Special) for several years that included other items like Christmas tree skirts and tote bags. She liked to cook and try to make variations on what she started. After she was married, Susan and her family lived in Massachusetts for a few years then moved to Charlotte in 1985. She enjoyed camping with the family and ski trips with friends. She was involved with community theater groups, including with Lyric Theater. In her later years, Susan enjoyed going to casinos to gamble with friends and also with scratch tickets. She enjoyed volunteering with AARP on Fraudwatch and advocacy work.
During her work career, Susan was a graduate of Champlain College followed by Castleton State. She worked in the data processing field at several places and finished her career as an IT Specialist with the USDA.
Susan is survived by her husband Bill in Waterbury Center; her brother Gary Smith (Lucinda) in Woodbury; her sister Lynn DePalma (Joe) South Carolina; her son Jason April in Denver, Colo.; her daughter Diana April in Idaho; and her grandson Tobi April in Waterbury Center.
Any donations in her name should be made to Planned Parenthood of Northern New England or to the Oncology Dept. at Central Vermont Medical Center who made her life a little easier at the end.
There will be no funeral service at this time but a private family celebration of life will be held later.
