GREENSBORO – At a special select board meeting, July 23, the FY25 municipal tax rate was set at $0.7964.
The state’s homestead education tax rate for Greensboro is $2.0210 per $100 of assessed property value, with the non-homestead education rate set at $1.9452. Combining the local and education tax rates brings the total homestead tax rate to $2.8174 and the total non-homestead rate to 2.7416 (All tax rates are per $100 of assessed property value.)
All select board members were present to set tax rates, along with the town clerk, and treasurer Brett Stanciu for the 4 p.m. meeting.
Stanciu explained the calculations that led her to recommend the FY25 tax rates based on the general budget of $1,380,321 and $1,005,132 highway budgets that were set at town meeting, and estimated revenues from the Current Use program, state payments in lieu of taxes and other income.
Town residents are required to pay school taxes of $1,367.48 on properties exempted from tax through local agreements, which include taxes on the Tolman Corner ballfield and taxes on the first $40,000 of property value for disabled veteran property owners.
Mike Metcalf made the motion to set the local tax rate, with Judy Carpenter seconding. Ellen Celnik and Tim Brennan joined them in voting for the motion, with Select Board Chair MacNeil abstaining.
Stancio and Brennan offered to review the letter that will accompany the tax bill so tax bills could be sent out this week.
In other business, the board agreed to sign a contract for fuel oil at $2.79 a gallon with Packard Fuel.
Following an executive session, they voted to hire Brandy Smith as an employee for two days a week at $30 per hour, which is the same rate she has been paid as a contractor. Again MacNeil abstained.
Greaves told board members that she has offered Sharon Fialco a position as an assistant town clerk for two days a week starting in August.
The meeting was unanimously adjourned at 4:47 p.m.
Last week’s story “Tax Rate Set, Assistant Town Clerk Hired,” reported “Greaves told board members that she has hired Sharon Fialco as an assistant town clerk for two days a week starting in August.”
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story, based on minutes of the meeting, indicate Fialco has accepted the Assistant Town Clerk posiiton.
