To the editor:
Bridge 31 in East Hardwick was removed in April 2024 after flood damage. Since then, people who relied on the bridge have used an alternate crossing.
The Town of Hardwick is evaluating long-term options and has begun targeted written outreach to people who relied on Bridge 31 prior to its removal, including residents of Hardwick, Stannard, Walden, and Greensboro. No decision has been made.
Options under consideration include restoring the bridge (estimated total cost $2.8 million, with a local share of about $140,000) or permanent removal with floodplain restoration (estimated total cost $225,000, with a local share of about $11,250).
People who relied on Bridge 31 prior to its removal are invited to complete a short survey at forms.gle/LPPSQxFzw6grbSBM7
