Works by Pitkin on exhibit through August

Share article

PLAINFIELD – Cutler Memorial Library will host an opening reception for “Mortal Bloom,” a photography exhibition by Hannah Carpenter Pitkin on Thursday, April 10, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will remain on view through August 1.

The exhibition features work created through the historic wet-plate collodion process, including tintypes and other forms of alternative-process photography. Developed in the nineteenth century, wet plate collodion requires each image to be made and developed by hand while the photographic plate is still wet, producing singular images marked by tonal depth, physical texture and subtle unpredictability.

In “Mortal Bloom,” Pitkin uses this early photographic method to explore themes of transience, fragility and form. Pitkin, is a Vermont artist whose work spans photography, painting and mixed media

The opening reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Angela Ogle at [email protected].
