GREENSBORO – The Greensboro Community Garden group is gearing up for their third growing season. Established in the summer of 2021 in front of Greensboro Town Hall, the garden is a volunteer-led effort to grow fresh produce in and for the community. Last year more than 300 pounds of produce was donated to the Hardwick Area Food pantry and a giving table was set up next to The Giving Closet in the town hall to distribute the harvest throughout the community.

The group kicked off the growing season this year by hosting a gardening-related talk at the Greensboro Free Library on May 11, “Maximizing the Harvest: How to Grow Great Organic Produce on a Small Scale.” Doug Wolcik and Kayleigh Boyle of Breadseed Farm shared the regenerative, organic practices and strategies they use on their no-till farm in Craftsbury. They offered helpful tips for home gardeners including companion plantings, pollinator and pest management tactics, and maintaining soil health. The talk was attended by 25 local residents.

On Saturday, a team of seven volunteers added compost to the planting beds, weeded, and mulched the paths between them in preparation for planting day, Saturday, June 3, at 9 a.m., in front of the Greensboro Town Hall. Volunteers are needed on that day and throughout the summer to weed, water, harvest, and distribute vegetables.
