Bovine Bonanza Delves into Livestock Topics

Share article

BURLINGTON – For 55 Vermont 4-H’ers enrolled in the beef, dairy and working steer projects, the 2023 Bovine Bonanza offered a wealth of information on a diverse range of topics.

The annual event took place at the University of Vermont (UVM)’s Paul R. Miller Research and Educational Center in South Burlington on November 4. The participants, ages 8 to 16, were divided into age groups, and rotated through sessions on body conditioning and scoring, mastitis, the milking process, nutrition and reproduction.

Twenty-five students in the UVM Animal and Veterinary Sciences Department’s CREAM (Cooperative for Real Education in Agricultural Management) program led the sessions, tailoring the topic to each age group. Although a non-competitive event, the 4-H’ers will be able to use the knowledge gained for future project work, exhibits and competitions.

Certificates of participation were awarded to the following local participants: Ryan Holbrook, Hardwick and Deegan Michaud, Greensboro.
