HARDWICK — Lamoille Housing Partnership (LHP) begins a month-long construction project at its Church Street Apartments property located on Church Street.

Situated in downtown Hardwick’s village historic district, Church Street Apartments is on the National Register of Historic Places and dates back to Hardwick’s granite quarrying heyday in the 1800s. Upon acquiring the property, LHP initiated historic preservation, rehabilitation and energy efficiency work to reinvigorate the property as affordable rental housing.
Right now the property’s driveway and parking lot, plus staircase connecting residents with greenspace have begun degrading to the point that resident safety is a concern, necessitating driveway and parking lot redesign and grading, and staircase replacement.
The construction scope of work includes driveway and parking lot redesign, regrading, and paving; and replacement of the exterior staircase. Construction began July 2 and is expected to take 4 weeks to complete. Community members can anticipate dump truck traffic as fill is brought in from a local sand and gravel pit. We apologize for the inconvenience and advise drivers to use caution when traveling near the construction site.
