Window inserts help people stay warmer in their homes while saving money on heating bills. In the last five years almost 1,000 window inserts have been built by the Craftsbury Energy Committee.
A drawing for five free window inserts is again being offered at the market.
The Energy Committee table will display a window insert and provide information about other energy-saving measures available to renters and homeowners. Ten free energy-saving window inserts are available to homeowners and renters who cannot afford them. No application is required.

A window insert is a 1” x 2” frame of pine wood, precision-fit to the inside of your window with two layers of transparent plastic wrapped around the pine frame and an expandable foam gasket around the outside edge to create a draft seal.
The inserts create two additional layers of insulating air space on the inside of a window. They are reusable and leave no residue on the window trim.
According to the committee, installing one 3′ x 4′ window insert saves an average of eight gallons of heating oil each winter. The inserts reduce moisture condensation on windows, even in the bathroom.
The Craftsbury Energy Committee’s mission is to help guide the town and its citizens into a more sustainable energy future.
