HARDWICK — In a letter to the editor Shari Cornish, representing Northeast Kingdom Arts Council (NEKarts) and the Hardwick Downtown Partnership, stated both organizations experienced incidents of alleged financial misappropriation in recent months. The alleged embezzlement involved the aforementioned organizations and the East Hardwick Fire District, all non-profit 501(c)(3)’s. Cornish clarified that since the discovery, all misappropriated funds have since been recovered. The EHFD has also stated they have been made whole.
The three organizations have yet to rescind the liens filed against Laurel Schoop’s home. Schoop declined to comment. The state’s attorney has been unavailable for comment.
