HARDWICK – The traffic-jam pattern that resulted in very persistent weather patterns for days on end slowed down even a little more than first thought, leading to the bulk of the weekend’s showers not arriving until Monday. Even with that, some of the heavier rain showers managed to miss us, with one station in Greensboro reporting 1.21” from Monday’s thunderstorms. Most areas experienced between a quarter and three quarters of an inch of rain.

Heavy clouds loom over the Mackville Pond recreation area in Hardwick on Monday, August 19. Scattered showers and cooler temperatures are predicted through Thursday.
The bigger story is the dip in temperatures initiated with the passage of the storm’s associated frontal system. As of Tuesday morning, low temperatures ranged from the upper 40s to low 50s. Normal highs for this time of year are typically in the mid-to-upper 70s, with lows in the mid-50s. We’ll see temperatures maintain below normal as we start this forecast period, with a turn toward above normal by the time we reach the weekend. No big precipitation-makers are evident in this week’s forecast.
An upper-level low pinwheels over New England today and tomorrow, with a mix of sun and clouds, interspersed with scattered showers. Not a washout by any means, but we may see some cold showers from time to time, especially in the afternoon. High pressure builds in starting on Friday, with temperatures progressively warming as we start the weekend. Precipitation will hold off until Sunday, when there is a slight chance of a shower with the passage of yet another trough. Here are the forecast details:
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with some brief intervals of clearing. Scattered showers, especially in the afternoon. High: 67. Low: 49.
Thursday: Partly sunny. Scattered afternoon showers. High: 70. Low: 47.
Friday: Mostly sunny. High: 73. Low: 52.
Saturday: Partly sunny. High: 76. Low: 54.
Sunday: Partly sunny. Scattered afternoon showers. High: 79. Low: 56
