WALDEN – The fire department elected officers at its annual meeting December

The Walden Fire Department responds to motor vehicle accidents, structure fires, hazmat incidents, medical calls, forest fires, entrapments, search for missing people and many other situations. The department serves as mutual aid to surrounding communities.
Walden Fire Department equipment consists of a 2,000 International/V Tech tanker with 1,800 gallons of water and a 500 gallon per minute (GPM) pump. The tanker carries a portable folding tank, portable pump, hose, ladders, SCBAs, forestry and hand tools.
A 2014 International/Pierce pumper carries 1,000 gallons of water and a 1,250 GPM pump. The pumper carries an exhaust fan, thermal imaging camera, ladders, hose, small set of jaws, SCBAs, forestry and hand tools.
A 1995 Ford/Fire Trucks R Us heavy rescue vehicle carrying 1,000 gallons of water and a 1,000 GPM pump. On the truck are a rescue basket, a large set of Jaws of Life, air bags, cribbing, jacks, EMS equipment, hazmat equipment, ladders, hose, forestry and hand tools.
Walden Volunteer Fire and Rescue was formed on March 20, 1968, to serve the Town of Walden with a population of just under 1,000 residents and 39 square miles. In 1995 EMS was added to its service offerings. The town website notes, “Of the 24 members, six are EMS certified.”
The current station was constructed in 2005 by a State of Vermont Department of Corrections work camp.
