PLAINFIELD – A community design workshop for the Plainfield Village Expansion project will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Plainfield Town Hall Opera House.

A map of the Plainfield area identifies the location of three parcels of land, marked A, B and C, being considered for a village expansion.

The workshop is being held to gather community input for a proposed new neighborhood off East Hill Road in Plainfield with at least 30 buildable lots initially to replace affordable housing lost in recent flooding. The Plainfield Village Expansion project is headed by a steering committee of Plainfield residents who are exploring new construction to keep housing available in town after so much was lost to the flood of July 2024.

The goal of the project is to make it possible for people who live in Plainfield to stay, and to create space for people who want to move to Plainfield. The committee plans to find a way to prioritize the sale of these lots to people already living in Plainfield, those displaced by the floods and those who will live in the houses built on the lots.

The committee welcomes the community’s creativity, input and thoughts to help design this new neighborhood out of the flood plain.

The workshop’s first hour will be an informational meeting with Q&A. A Community Design Workshop with break-out sessions facilitated by architects will follow to design the new neighborhood.

The goal of the day is to develop one or two layouts for the new neighborhood including where lots, roads, trails and green spaces will be located.

The final designs will be adopted by the town through a public vote.
