EAST HARDWICK – After another round of dreary and soggy conditions, Memorial Day weekend closed out Monday with the first 24-hour break in rainfall seen in over 10 days. Precipitation this forecast period was lighter than the previous due to its showery nature. It amounted to a widespread eight-tenths of an inch to an inch of rain. No observing stations reported snow accumulations, although an anecdotal report of a few flakes came from the higher elevations of Walden during the coldest conditions Friday morning.

A total of seven rain-free days were recorded at the weather station in May. Although there is hope we can squeeze another zero out of today, refrain from banging your head against a wall as we discuss the forecast trends through the weekend, and consider getting your outdoor chores done before we revert to our now relatively predictable wet pattern.
High pressure overhead Wednesday gives way to an approaching low-pressure system in the Ohio Valley, which will lift a warm front through New England into Thursday with steady rain that exits by day’s end. A lull occurs for part of Friday, where we may see some breaks of sun early and some warming. Another low-pressure system spins up off the coast and moves north with a steady rain arriving by daybreak Saturday. This persists through Sunday morning before exiting by afternoon, where we have the opportunity to start the break in activity all over again. This time around, temperatures should be warm enough for rain everywhere. It’s preposterous to think we’re days away from June. Here are the forecast details:
Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with increasing clouds late. High: 74. Low: 50. Light and variable wind.
Thursday: Mostly cloudy. Rain. High: 65. Low: 48. South wind 5-10 mph.
Friday: Mostly cloudy, with occasional breaks of sun. Scattered showers. High: 66. Low: 46. Southwest wind around 5 mph.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Rain. High: 63. Low: 43. West wind 5-10 mph.
Sunday: Mostly cloudy early with scattered showers; becoming partly sunny by afternoon. High: 66. Low: 45. West wind 5-10 mph.
