Local Lumps

Thursday, July 16, 1925

HARDWICK – With the painting of the new bridge, a very pretty battleship gray color, and the new cement sidewalks, on each side, at each end of the bridge, Hardwick may well boast of as nice a bridge as can be found in any town.

Natural Dirt Road Roads

HARDWICK – Much favorable comment is heard from motorists from other states who visit Vermont regarding our natural dirt roads. There may be a question as to their durability and permanence, but motorists certainly enjoy riding over them. They have many advantageous features that the macadam and cement highways in other states lack. [Ed. Note: People recently driving on Hardwick’s Center road might understand this comment. That road is scheduled for paving this summer.]

Lawn Party

HARDWICK – The Altar Society of St. Norbert’s church will hold a Lawn Party or Radio Carnival, Tuesday, July 21st, on the lawn opposite the Memorial building. Various things will be on sale, such as ice cream, coffee, frankfurters, home-cooked food, candy and aprons. Free entertainment will be given in the evening. In case of rain the Carnival will be held in the K. of C. hall.

Beauty Shoppe Changes Hands

HARDWICK – The Beauty Shoppe, located on the second floor of the Hardwick Inn, owned and conducted by Mrs. Josephine Smith for the past two years, has been sold to Miss Doris Chasse, who graduated from Hardwick Academy this last spring. This shoppe is one of the best equipped parlors of the kind that can be found in this section of the State, everything being modern in every way, and machinery, tools, etc., of a kind that can make the old young and the plain-looking better.

Miss Chasse will leave around the first of August for New York to take a course of study and instruction in this art, and Mrs. Smith will continue to conduct the business in Miss Chasse’s name until her return.

The Gazette bespeaks for the new owner and manager a continuation of the already well-established business in Hardwick’s concerns.
