VERMONT – The Vermont Journalism Coalition (VJC) reviewed bylaws, elected its first board of directors, established an initial legislative agenda and discussed the search for an executive director at its first meeting last Friday.
Thirty-one founding VJC members include The Hardwick Gazette and many of Vermont’s newspapers, television stations, radio stations and digital news organizations.
The nine-member board of directors was elected from a slate of 10 candidates, with the executive committee being led by President Mark Davis, Vermont Public. Other officers elected are Vice President Bridget Higdon, O’Rourke Media Group (Saint Albans Messenger, Colchester Sun, The Essex Reporter and MIlton Independent); Treasurer Cassandra Hemenway, The Bridge; and Secretary Tim Calabro, White River Valley Herald.
Other board seats are filled by Dom Amato, WCAX; Lisa Scagliotti, Waterbury Roundabout; Paul Fixx, Hardwick Gazette; John Flowers, Addison County Independent; and Lisa Loomis, Valley Reporter.
The search for an executive director is underway to replace Paul Heintz who has worked to bring the organization to life with support from The UVM Center for Community News.
Paul Fixx is editor of The Hardwick Gazette and lives in Hardwick.
