HARDWICK – For the second year in a row, Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union (OSSU) has been recognized as a Gold Level District of Distinction by the Northeast Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (NEPBIS) Network. OSSU was the only recipient from the state of Vermont to receive this distinction.

PBIS is a strategic, systems approach that enables schools to create a culture of positive behaviors through teaching and acknowledgment and to promote a safe and equitable learning environment for all students. All OSSU schools incorporate strategies to promote and reinforce a culture of positive behaviors, including weekly community meetings and individual recognition. Students are also rewarded with grade-level and whole-school PBIS celebrations throughout the school year once they have earned a certain number of positive behavior points.
“We are honored to once again be recognized as a Gold-Level District of Distinction by NEPBIS,” said Kelly Locke, OSSU assistant director of student services. “This achievement reflects the collective commitment not only of this team, but of our educators, staff, and students, to fostering supportive learning environments where every student feels valued, connected, and empowered to succeed. By intentionally integrating PBIS, MTSS, community schools, and restorative practices, we are building one cohesive approach to support our entire school community.”
