CASTLETON – The North flexed its muscles last week in a sweep over a pair of nine-inning contests last week in the North-South Senior Softball Classic, hosted by VTSU-Castleton.

The North pummeled the South 24-4 in the opener and kept swinging for the fences in the nightcap with a convincing 14-1 win. Lyndon Institute’s Ryleigh Lefebvre and North Country’s Taylor Bingham recorded a pair of hits in the opener and BFA-St. Albans pitcher Megan Gonyeau earned the win in the circle, fanning 10. Mountain League standout Mazie Bourgeois (Oxbow) belted a pair of doubles in the loss. Alayna Havreluk (Rice) earned the win in the nightcap and Bingham and North Country teammate Randi Fortin collected a hit apiece at the plate.

Lefebvre and Nora Tatro (BFA-St. Albans) were named the winners of the Mackenzie Pratt Scholarships. Pratt was a multi-sport standout at Lamoille Union before passing away in 2010 at 21 years old after her battle with cancer.
