Central Vermont Solid Waste Management District (CVSWMD) General Manager, Dan Casey, has informed the organization’s Board of Supervisors that he will leave his post on March 6 for personal family reasons.
Casey, who was previously the long-time director at the Barre Opera House, took the helm at the District in April, 2023.
Says Casey, “It was my desire and intent to remain with the District for the remainder of my professional career. It’s an organization with a talented and committed staff that performs amazing and critical environmental work for Central Vermonters. To have to leave at this point in time where serious progress is being made on siting a new facility is especially disappointing, but family circumstances make that decision necessary.”
Casey is referring to the District’s current plan to purchase a property at 300 Granger Road in the Berlin Industrial Park where its operations, including the award-winning Additional Recyclables Collection Center (ARCC), and outreach and education programs will be consolidated. The site will also headquarter CSWMD’s offices and a new household hazardous waste facility to provide convenient and safe collections year-round.
Board Chair, Fred Thumm expressed disappointment at Casey’s departure. “In the time Dan’s been with us, he’s been a positive force in moving our programs forward. Equally important, he’s helped to create a team that is well-prepared to handle the important work that lies ahead of us in the coming years.”
CVSWMD member towns include Calais, Hardwick, Plainfield, Walden & Woodbury
