BURLINGTON – Becky Butler, Orleans Southwest Supervisory Union (OSSU) occupational therapist and OT/PT program coordinator, was honored as a 2024 UVM Outstanding Educator Thursday, Nov. 7.
Butler, along with Director of Student Support Services Heather Freeman, Assistant Director of Student Services Kelly Locke, Deb Butler and Ruth Roy, attended the 44th UVM Outstanding Educators Award Ceremony in Burlington.
“Becky is an exceptional educator and collaborator whose lens is always student-centered. She has implemented numerous creative solutions in the classroom including creating calming corners and setting up regulation stations with sensorimotor activities for students in elementary school hallways. She is one of the most creative, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and hardworking professionals I have ever met!” said Heather Freeman, OSSU director of student support services.
Colleague and special educator Francinne Valcour commented, “Each fall, Becky reaches out to all teachers offering to come to their classroom with helpers to adjust all desks to meet the physical requirements of the individual students in each class. While this may seem like a small benefit, it reflects Becky’s intent for each student to have the best opportunity to access their learning. She is a stronghold for her students and an indispensable resource to her colleagues.”
The OSSU said, “we are so fortunate to have Becky on our team for the benefit of students and we wish her much continued success!”
Every year, the College of Education and Social Services (CESS) at UVM, together with Vermont supervisory unions and school districts, the Vermont Agency of Education and the Vermont NEA, join to honor the accomplishments of Vermont’s outstanding educators.
