Locke states she has a lifelong love for theater and a personal connection to the performing arts that began watching her grandfather play music at the Hyde Park Opera House, As a Craftsbury resident of five years, she says she looks forward to deepening her connection with the community through the arts.
“Theater gives you the chance to truly discover yourself, even when you’re playing the part of someone else. Stepping into another character’s shoes allows you to uncover strengths and qualities about yourself you might not have noticed before. The confidence students build through these experiences can transfer to countless other areas of life, making theater a truly transformative journey,” commented Locke.
The program launched last week with acting skill development and team-building activities, leading up to a spring production to be announced in the coming weeks. Students will have opportunities to participate, from performing on stage to music opportunities to working behind the scenes in set design or as part of the stage crew. Rehearsals for grades-two through five will be Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m., and for grades-six through -twelve, Fridays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Information about rehearsals and how to participate can be found on the school’s website at craftsbury.ossu.org/en-us/theater.
