WOODBURY – Students at Woodbury Elementary School (WES) laced up their skates on opening day of the skating season, Janaury 15 and headed to the ice rink near the school doors. The Woodbury community ice rink has been brought to life through the dedication of volunteers, neighbors and the school. Friends of WES, the school’s parent-community organization, is instrumental in the operation of the rink, funding and sharpening skates. The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department fills the rink each season. Elizabeth Stratton, community member and former WES parent, serves as the school’s rink guardian. She shovels snow weekly and reports on ice conditions. Rosemary Leach’s PE classes gather at the rink to master basic skating and hockey skills.
