S. BURLINGTON – The Craftsbury Academy (CA) track and field team strung together another grouping of personal bests last week as they look to peak at the right time heading into the Division III state championships next week.
Natalie Hill continued to impress in the field events last Wednesday, posting a fourth-place finish and personal best in the discus. The sophomore was coming off her first career title in that event last week and was tops once again in her division for the Chargers. Freshman teammate Kilie Burnor posted a personal record in the same event.
Tess Adams of Essex took home first place honors. Kosmos Glestos excelled for the Chargers in the field events, finishing just outside the top 10 in both the discus and javelin. The sophomore posted a personal best in the discus (13th overall) and finished 11th in the javelin. He also had his best effort of the season in the long jump, with Raf Campanile of MMU taking home the hardware in both the long jump and discus. Junior Owen McKibben finished 11th in the 400m with his best time of the season for CA and sophomore teammate Theo Alexander recorded a personal best. Lamoille senior Elliot Rowe bested the field. McKibben posted a personal record time in the 200m, finishing behind event winner Brody Wells of Enosburg. Freshman Nora Van Gulden wrapped up another solid meet for CA, finishing just outside the top 10 in the 800m. Chelsea Larsen of Essex bested the field.
The Chargers will head to states next Thursday, hosted by Burlington High School.
Craftsbury Middle Schoolers Shine in Georgia Meet
ST. ALBANS – Seventh grader Poppy Glestos led her CA middle school track and field team with her first event win of the season at the Georgia Middle School Meet in St. Albans.
Glestos blitzed the field in the shot put with her best throw of the season, distancing herself from Georgia eighth grader Kallie Grattelo by more than a meter. Sixth grade teammate Mia Stout also recorded a personal best in the long jump for CA. Seventh grader Hollis Allen posted an impressive runner-up finish in the 800m with his best time of the season, finishing behind Jack Henry of Fredrick H. Tuttle (FHT). Allen had a personal best in the 75m hurdles and a seventh-place finish, with Mason Soter of FHT taking home first place honors. Charger sixth grader Adrienne Robillard bested more than two thirds of the field in the 100m with his best time of the season, with Joslin Allard of St. Albans finishing first. Eighth grader Aemilia Terrone capped off a sensational day for the Chargers with a runner-up finish in the 75m hurdles and a third-place finish in the 800m, both personal records. Teammates Stella Cusack (75m hurdles) and Eliza Bunten (800m) posted personal bests in their events.
The Chargers will wrap up the season at the Vermont Middle School TF Championships next Friday at the University of Vermont.
