GREENSBORO – The arctic blast of cold air over the weekend canceled many outdoor outings including the Tour de Greensboro. After monitoring the weather forecast going into the January 24 event date, it was very clear that the safety of the participants and volunteers would be at risk in the subzero temperatures. The decision to cancel the event was made on January 21, by Jim Fredericks, the volunteer event director. “Canceling the event was very disappointing after one hundred plus hours of preparation time,” said Fredericks. This 25km single loop non-competitive ski tour starts and finishes at the Highland Lodge and takes people over the public and private trail system in Greensboro. The Tour de Greensboro attracts participants from throughout New England and New York with a maximum capacity of 140 skiers. The event is a fundraiser for the Greensboro Association.
