MORRISVILLE – On June 2, at 8:08 a.m., Copley Hospital notified the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department that they were about to medically clear Arthur Smith of Cabot. Smith was known to local area law enforcement to have active in-state warrants for failure to appear. Troopers responded to the hospital and identified Smith inside. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Lamoille County Superior Court to answer to the warrants.
CABOT – On June 5, at 8:42 p.m., Vermont State Police received a report of a crash on U.S. Route 2 in the town of Cabot. Upon arrival, troopers identified the operator as Sanjv Rimal. While speaking with Rimal, troopers detected indicators of impairment. Subsequent investigation led to Rimal being arrested for Suspicion of DUI. Rimal was transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing without incident. Rimal was released with a citation to answer to the above charge.
BROWNINGTON – On June 5, at 9:51 p.m., the Vermont State Police, Orleans Ambulance, and Orleans Fire Department were dispatched to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a car and a horse on Vt. Route 5A, Willoughby Lake Road, in the Town of Brownington. Responders arrived on scene and learned that the operator of the vehicle, Dean Burns, of Woodbury, was traveling south when he encountered several horses standing on or near the roadway, and his vehicle collided with one. Burns and his passenger sustained no injury. The vehicle suffered major damage to the front end, hood, windshield, and roof.
The horse suffered fatal injuries and was euthanized. The owners of the horses arrived on scene and advised the horses broke out of their containment fence. The other horses were contained by the owners and returned to their property. Ray’s Towing was dispatched to remove the vehicle from the roadway.
