NEWPORT– In a presentation, “Lake Memphremagog: Learning the Facts and Finding Solutions,” Wednesday, June 10, 6:30 to 8 p.m., five environmental scientists from the US and Quebec will present current research and discuss the risks posed by chemical contamination in the Memphremagog watershed, including contamination linked to landfill leachate discharge. Although landfill leachate is not the watershed’s only source of pollution, studies indicate it contains concerning levels of PFAS (forever chemicals) and other toxic substances that can bioaccumulate in fish and threaten the health of those who drink from or eat fish from the lake.
The event is in-person at North Country High School Career Center, Newport, Room 380 and via Zoom at us02web.zoom.us/j/83011847097?pwd=0stJYL72CBHE1HdkR9ZYeqFtq63jOQ.1
