BURLINGTON – Craftsbury Academy (CA) and Danville wrapped up the season, posting multiple podium finishes earlier this month at the Nathan Suter Middle School Track and Field Championships.
CA eighth grader Hollis Allen led the way for the Chargers with a pair of fourth-place podium finishes. Allen posted his best times of the season in both the 800m and 1500m events. Hinesburg’s Royal Ricklefs swept the field in both legs, taking home a pair of titles.
Danville eighth-grader Willa Mantius finished fifth to podium in the 1500m with her fastest time of the season. Seventh grader Ellen Wilfrey of Christ The King/Mater Christ was the first to cross the line to claim the title. Eighth-grade teammate Althaea Irwin posted a fifth-place podium finish for the Bears in the Long jump behind sixth-grade event winner Ella Castonguay of Colchester.
CA’s Poppy Glestos just missed out on a podium in the javelin with a sixth-place finish. Hattie Coffey of Winooski took home the title. Mantius continued her string of personal bests with a seventh-place finish in the 800m and her best time of the season in the 400m. CA eighth-grader Eleanor Hammond posted a top ten in the 800m with a personal record time. Montpelier’s Eilidh Corbett won the title. Danville’s Taryn Barrett and Hailey Duprey also posted personal bests to wrap up a stellar day for both schools.
