On June 13, around 9:30 a.m., the Vermont State Police were notified of a two-vehicle head-on crash on Vt. Route 14, near Hattie Bell Road. The preliminary investigation indicated a 2005 Toyota Corolla operated by Jonathan Ross of Danville, was traveling southbound on Vt. Route 14 when it failed to negotiate a curve, crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane of travel.
At the same time, a 2023 Ford F250 operated by Harry Dailey of Woodbury, was traveling north on the road.
The two vehicles collided head-on in the northbound lane.
Harry Dailey sustained minor injuries and was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) in Burlington. His passenger, and son Thomas Dailey, also of Woodbury, sustained serious injuries and was also transported to UVMMC.
At 10:29 a.m., it was reported that Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART), was responding to the area with two helicopters for a MEDEVAC, or medical evacuation, to Route 14 in Woodbury for a two car head-on crash with multiple patients.
Two juvenile passengers in Ross’s vehicle, his daughters, an 8-year-old girl and a 2-year-old girl, were pronounced deceased at the scene. Both juveniles were in the rear seat, one in a car seat and the other seat-belted.
Ross sustained serious injuries and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The car was demolished and the truck sustained substantial front end damage, police said.
The road was closed down to traffic for about 5 hours as investigators worked on the case. The weather and the road was clear and dry and the temperature was hot, according to Vermont State Police.
As recently as 2025, Ross, was employed as a Family Services Worker with the Vermont Department of Children and Families. He interned at St. John the Baptist in Hardwick, where The Rev. John Perry served as his supervisor before Ross was ordained as a deacon in September 2020 to serve at St. Andrew’s in St. Johnsbury. He now serves as a guest preacher and parish deacon for multiple local congregations.
Vermont State Police troopers including members of the Crash Reconstruction Team were assisted by the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department, Hardwick Fire and Rescue, Barre Town Ambulance and East Montpelier Ambulance Service.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact Trooper Alexis Marciniak at the Berlin Barracks at (802) 229-9191.
