BURLINGTON – Danville multi-sport budding stars Taryn Barrett and Willa Mantius helped lead the U14 Caledonia Flood soccer team to a Nordic Cup title over the weekend.
Goalkeeper True Layn and the Cal Flood defense posted four consecutive shutouts en route to their dominant tournament run. Barrett, along with Phoenix Newell and Lily Rossetti, kicked off the scoring on Saturday in a 4-0 win over Albany Rush. Newell followed that up with the game-winner in a 1-0 win against Central Vermont. Newell added another brace on Sunday in a 5-0 rout of Saratoga-Wilton and capped off an amazing weekend with the game-winner in the title match against Central Vermont.
Mantius and Barrett also tore up the middle school track & field circuit for the Bears this past spring. As a seventh-grader, Barrett captured a pair of titles in both the 100m and relays, a 200m title and runner-up finishes in the javelin and high jump events. Mantius was equally as impressive in her eighth-grade campaign, dominating the 1500m event with a trio of titles, a pair of relay titles, a title in both the 400m and long jump and runner-up finishes in the 800m and 400m events.
The future looks bright for Danville’s high school track and field program and Caledonia United soccer.
